Dispatch

The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150, AFL-CIO, has negotiated into all its construction industry collective bargaining agreements provisions which establish an exclusive Hiring Hall.  Local 150’s Dispatch Office places Operating Engineers who are out of work on Hiring Hall “out-of-work” or referral lists.  The goal of the Dispatch Office is to enable qualified operators to obtain employment with signatory employers as fairly and efficiently as possible.

Placement on the out-of-work list is based upon the date and time that the Operator calls in to report him or herself out of work.  Referrals are made based upon employer requests for Operators with certain skills.  Ordinarily, the person at the top of the list with the required skills gets the first opportunity to obtain the job.  Operators who work on jobs for less than ten (10) working days may maintain their original position on the out-of-work list.

The Dispatch Offices are located at each of the eight (8) Local 150 District Union Halls.  Operators who wish to be placed on the referral list must first contact the Dispatch Office in their district.  However, Operators may also place their names on the out of work lists in other Districts.  Members can either telephone Dispatch or come in person to the Dispatch Offices.

The phone numbers of the District offices are as follows:

District 1 – Countryside (708) 482-8800
District 2 – Joliet (815) 725-5561
District 3 – Lakemoor (815) 363-0002
District 4 – Rockford (815) 874-4166
District 5 – Utica (815) 667-3036
District 6 – Lakeville (574) 784-3694
District 7 – Merrillville (219) 736-7710
District 8 – Rock Island (309) 787-4646

(Remember, when calling, ask to speak to a Dispatcher).

The Dispatch Offices are open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
