Organizing may be the most important thing we do. Indeed, the lifeblood of any organization is its ability to recruit new members. “Organize or Die” has become our motto.
This idea was at the heart of the creation of Local 150’s Organizing Department following the election of William E. “Bill” Dugan as President-Business Manager of Local 150 in 1986. At that time, the Union’s membership had dropped to about 10,000 members. Today, thanks to the outstanding efforts of Local 150 organizers, that number has increased to over 23,000, during an era when most union’s membership is on the decline.
Local 150’s Organizing Department is focused not just on attracting new members, but also retaining and regaining members in existing industries and markets. Over the years, our organizers have developed systematic plans to bring Union wages and benefits to the unorganized and to continue to protect those benefits for those already in our jurisdiction.
Led by Organizing Director Stan Simrayh, the Local 150 Organizing Department works tirelessly to increase the Union’s market share, organize new technology and improve the lives of all Operating Engineers working in construction and related industries.
